Devon George (B’01), Past President-Elect
As COO of Prolific Interactive Devon managers the building of mobile solutions, products & companies with user experience & goals in mind. The trends are pointing to a majority of digital usage from a mobile device. Devon has been helping startups apply strategic execution & infrastructure to their business operations since 2001 &, along with being COO of Prolific Interactive, is currently the President of DMV Capital Corp, a family office. He has built & developed strategies for web, software, ecommerce & technology companies as well as assisted in creating & financing sustainable operations. Before DMV Capital Devon served as a founding member of Freshnotes, a social search company seeking to index, connect & distribute person-based information on the web (social search). Previously, Devon was a member of the PetCareRx (online pet pharmacy) leadership team through multiples of revenue growth. Devon has held various advisory positions for many small & startup companies as a consultant & sometime owner. Devon graduated from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business (2001). Born & raised on Long Island, NY as a member of a happy family that enjoys the outdoors, good neighbors & making the world a better place.
Jeff Chapski (B’91), Past President
Jeff Chapski has worked for, & consulted with, industry leaders & start-up organizations in the financial services, consulting, & technology sectors including J.P Morgan, Arthur & Andersen, Oracle Corporation, & TradeOut.com, Chase Bank, GE Capital, Hewlett-Packard, & Microsoft. Jeff is passionate about mentoring college students as they transition to their first career. He has written a book on the subject that will be published in mid-2015. He is currently working on his second book & writes a blog at Career-ology.com. This desire to give back led Jeff to work closely with Georgetown to establish Hoya Gateway, a program that facilitates 1:1 meetings to introduce current students to the Georgetown Alumni network & thereby guide students as they launch their careers. Jeff also serves as President-Elect for the Georgetown University Alumni Association Board of Governors, having previously served as the Chair of the Career Services Committee for four years. He helped launch the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance, GUAA’s first professional alliance & he serves on the Board of Advisors for the Georgetown University Wall Street Alliance. In 2008, Jeff received the Gaston Award for “Outstanding Service by an Alumnus” & in 2013, he received the Reed Award for “Outstanding Service to the Board of the Alumni Association.” Jeff’s previous volunteer roles at Georgetown include: Co-President of the Georgetown Club of Metropolitan New York, Board Member for Hoyas Unlimited, Board Member the Gridiron Club & a Member of the 2009 John Carroll Weekend Planning Committee
Melissa Bradley (B’89), Past President
Melissa L. Bradley has 20+ years of entrepreneurship, investment & leadership experience. She is a Professor of Practice at the McDonough School of Business where she teaches impact investing, social entrepreneurship, P2P economies & innovation. Melissa also serves as a faculty advisor for the Social Venture Lab & runs experiential learning opportunities for students across the entire University. Previously Melissa served as a political appointee at the Corporation for National Service (CNCS). Her most recent role was as Acting Director of the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), a White House Initiative & program of CNCS. Prior to this role, Melissa served as Chief Strategy Officer at the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS). During her tenure at CNCS, Melissa was detailed to the Department of Education to continue her work in support of the President’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, designed to bring attention to, & support for decreasing, the disparities facing boys & young men of color. Before joining CNCS, Melissa served as Chief Executive Officer of Tides, a network of entities committed to helping donors & doers create a better world. Melissa’s corporate experience includes her role as Director of Investment Services at CIT GAP Funds and she also served as Vice President at UBS in the Private Client Group. Melissa currently serves as a board member to Aeris, Office Depot Foundation & ideas42. She serves as an Advisor to the Credit Suisse New Markets Advisory board, Wallet AI, the Center for the Advancement of Social Enterprise at Duke University, LGBTQ Center at Georgetown & Founding Advisor to the Dell Center for Entrepreneurs. She is also Founder & Former President of the GEA & served as a board member on the Georgetown University Alumni Association Board of Governors 10+ years, as well as Founding Member, The Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership. Melissa graduated from Georgetown in 1989 with a bachelor’s of science degree in Finance, & has her MBA from American University.
Shye Gilad (MBA’12), Past Chair, Membership
Shye Gilad has trained & coached hundreds of executives, entrepreneurs, & airline pilots to successful outcomes, & led multiple startups in the entertainment, air transportation, & human development industries. He is passionate about authentic leadership, lifelong learning, & random acts of hospitality. A former airline captain, Shye co-founded ProJet Aviation, an award-winning aircraft management & worldwide charter company. His leadership development firm, Creating Lift, specializes in authentic leadership training, coaching, & consulting for executives & entrepreneurs. Shye Gilad is an Adjunct Professor & Entrepreneur in Residence at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, where he earned an MBA in International Business. He is an EMyth Certified Business Coach, & holds a BS in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
Victoria Schramm (C’12), Past Chair, Events
Victoria Schramm leads the special events team for UP Global, the parent company of StartupWeekend, StartupDigest, NEXT, Startup America & other programs supporting entrepreneurs globally. UP Global aims to improve the global human condition by amplifying the efforts of startup community leaders & their ability to create & sustain flourishing entrepreneurial communities around the world. Based in San Francisco, Victoria is actively involved in the startup community out west. Prior to UP Global, Victoria worked in Account Management at Sprinklr & Corporate Communications at Ralph Lauren. During her years at Georgetown, Victoria worked closely with the Entrepreneurship Initiative & was also a Teaching Assistant for two Entrepreneurship-based classes. She was Global President of the Kairos Society while at Georgetown. She graduated Georgetown with a BA in Art History in 2012.
Phil Olive (SFS’11), Past Co-Chair, Communications
Philip Olive (KSB MSSM '15) is the CEO and Co-Founder of Storganize, which offers moving and storage services to college students, and Experiencia Social, which provides technology consulting and web development for DC-area businesses. In 2014, Storganize won American University's "What's the Big Idea? Entrepreneurial Pitch Competition." Experiencia Social has created over 15 web applications and websites and consulted for a variety of DC area businesses, including Broad Branch Market, which won "Best Food Market" in DC by the D.C. City Paper from 2013 - 2015. He holds a degree in Culture and Politics from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
David P Dietz (C'10), Past Co-Chair, Communications
Social entrepreneur, David founded Modavanti in 2013 the brainchild of his desire to fuse social good and fashion. Since launching, Modavanti has been named a top Ethical Fashion site by Instyle Magazine, one of the coolest fashion startups of 2016 by the Huffington Post and Honoree for Best for NYC by B Corp and the City. David serves as a board member of Georgetown University's Entrepreneurship Alliance and as co-chair of the Nexus Global Ethical Fashion Lab and Nexus Ambassador to New York City. Additionally, David is a contributing blogger for the Huffington Post. Prior to Modavanti, David served as a conflict journalist in the Middle East where he reported on the Arab Spring. During his two years in the region, David contributed to Mic.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Al Jazeera. He Holds degree in Political Economics and Arabic studies from Georgetown University
Parker Stanzione Karpinski (C’91), Past Co-Chair, Communications
Parker Stanzione brings more than 20 years of business consulting & leadership programming experience. Before joining Strelmark, Parker was Director of Corporate Relations at the Center for Women & Business developing women’s advancement & leadership programs with Fortune 500 companies interested in expanding their corporate Diversity & Inclusion programs. Parker’s previous experience includes developing Microsoft’s Corporate Citizenship campaign & five years of strategic online marketing experience at Fleishman Hillard Communications managing one of the firm’s largest clients, the Executive Office of the President, ONCDP. Before that she served as Director of Strategic Audiences at AOL where her role was to develop strategic partnerships for companies such as Coca-Cola, Proctor & Gamble, Phillips & Time, Inc. Parker spent the early part of her career as an entrepreneur & publisher of a national magazine during which time she was chosen as a finalist for the Echoing Green Social Entrepreneurs Fellowship. In addition to serving on the Board of the GEA, Parker is a strategic consultant for the Quorum Initiative, an exclusive network of executives supporting the professional growth of women.
Cherian Thomas (G'14), Past President-Elect, Chair, Alumni Pitch Competition
Cherian Thomas is Chairman and CEO of Spotluck Inc. Cherian took Spotluck from a Georgetown University Masters deliverable to a monetized business currently ranked as the #1 “dining” app on the iTunes App Store! The Spotluck mobile platform brings yield management to the restaurant industry by providing real-time incentives to the best local restaurants (“spots”) in the community. Spotluck’s gamified UX makes dining funfor users while their proprietary software maximizes restaurant profits through exclusive smart discounts that change based on day, time, weather and other factors that affect restaurant occupancy.
Prior to co-founding Spotluck, Cherian hedged commodities within the U.S manufacturing and recycling sector. Cherian holds a B.S. (Marketing), M.B.A. (Marketing) and E.M.L (Executive Masters in Leadership) from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. In 2013, Cherian co-founded the Georgetown WASTENOT Initiative in Cape Town, South Africa; a GU legacy project that links poverty prone areas to local manufacturers through recycling buy-back centers.
